Capacity Building

We understand the local context that we work in and we are guided by the African Union-NEPAD Capacity Development Strategic Framework (CDSF), adopted in 2010. We are also guided by the EU’s Backbone Strategy and in particular, the Toolkit for Capacity Development of 2009. Our interventions and courses are demand driven and reflect capacity development priorities. We believe in fundamental transformation, reorientation, and realignment of society-wide capacities and mind-sets as a basis for inclusive and results-oriented development.

Our courses can be tailored to your specific needs and range from half-day to three-day workshops that include an option of onsite or distance mentoring. We also offer some courses as standalone self-taught distance learning courses on CDROM.

Perhaps you are frustrated by the ever-dwindling number of donors willing to fund your organisation? This course is for Human Rights Defenders. Learn techniques on how to monitor human rights, how to investigate human rights violations and how to report on your findings, including developing shadow reports to treaty bodies. The course also covers human rights database tools that you could use when documenting cases.

What Are Human Rights?

Whether you are working for a private company, the government, a civil society organisation or whether you are just an ordinary citizen, we all have a responsibility to develop a culture of human rights in the workplace and in our countries. However, very few people understand their country’s constitution and what exactly human rights are. This exciting short course will deepen your understanding of where human rights come from, the human rights law in your country as well as some of the international human rights treaties. The course is ideally suited for integration into staff induction and orientation processes.
